🧠 As the Cerrahpaşa Neuroscience Club and its SIGN chapter, we are continuing our “Cerrahpasa Neuroscience Talks” seminar series from where we left off. In this session, we will be discussing volition, decision mechanisms, and the analysis of neural data with our guest, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aaron Schurger from the Department of Psychology and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Brain and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University.
A graduate of Indiana University in Computer Science who completed his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Princeton University, Dr. Aaron Schurger held research positions at leading European centers such as INSERM in France and EPFL in Switzerland before joining Chapman. Best known for his pioneering work on the 'readiness potential,' which challenged the classical interpretation of the Libet experiment with the 'stochastic accumulation of noise' model, Dr. Schurger is the recipient of prestigious awards including the William James Prize and an ERC Starting Grant.
🤩 We would be delighted to see you all at our online seminar titled "Neural Antecedents of Voluntary Movement" which will take place on Monday, December 15th at 18.30 (GMT+3). Spanning from Kornhuber and Deecke's discovery in 1965 to current findings, Dr. Schurger will discuss how the neural commitment to initiate movement actually happens much closer to the moment of action than previously thought, and will share the common pitfalls in analyzing time series data through his own research.

🧠 Cerrahpaşa Nörobilim Kulübü ve bünyesindeki SIGN dalı olarak “Cerrahpasa Neuroscience Talks” seminer serimize kaldığımız yerden devam ediyoruz. Bu oturumdaki konuğumuz Chapman Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü ve Disiplinlerarası Beyin ve Davranış Bilimleri Enstitüsü Öğretim Üyesi Dr. Aaron Schurger ile irade, karar mekanizmaları ve nöral verilerin analizi üzerine konuşuyor olacağız.
Indiana Üniversitesi Bilgisayar Bilimleri mezunu olan ve Nörobilim doktorasını Princeton Üniversitesinde tamamlayan Dr. Aaron Schurger; Chapman’a katılmadan önce Fransa'daki INSERM ve İsviçre'deki EPFL gibi Avrupa’nın önde gelen merkezlerinde araştırmalar yürütmüştür. Özellikle 'hazırlık potansiyeli' (readiness potential) üzerine yaptığı ve Libet deneyinin klasik yorumunu 'stokastik gürültü birikimi' modeliyle değiştiren öncü çalışmalarıyla tanınan Schurger, William James Ödülü ve ERC Starting Grant gibi prestijli başarıların sahibidir.
🤩 15 Aralık Pazartesi günü saat 18.30'da gerçekleşecek, Kornhuber ve Deecke'nin 1965'teki keşfinden güncel bulgulara uzanan "Neural Antecedents of Spontaneous Voluntary Movement" konulu çevrimiçi seminerimizde hepinizi görmekten mutluluk duyarız. Dr. Schurger bu konuşmada, hareketi başlatan nöral kararın sanılanın aksine hareket anına ne kadar yakın gerçekleştiğini ve zaman serisi verilerinin analizinde sıkça düşülen tuzakları kendi çalışmaları üzerinden bizlere aktaracak.
